Books 2009: February Update

Total to date: 15 books

The 2009 Support Your Local Library Challenge total to date: 11 books

A list of all the books I've read to date (from 01 January 2008) can be found at Library Thing.

Favourite books of the month?

* Beauty and the Black Sheep (Jessica Bird)

* I Shall Not Want (Julia Spencer-Fleming)

* The Defiant Hero (Suzanne Brockmann)

Currently reading: Melusine (Sarah Monette)

Book(s) I 'did not finish':

* House of Cards (CE Murphy)

* Kitty & the Midnight House (Carrie Vaughn)

And the books I'm most looking forward too next month are:

* Angels' Blood (Nalini Singh)

* Bone Crossed (Patricia Briggs)

* The Shadow Queen (Anne Bishop)

Updated to add: Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Carrie Vaughan) [I might attempt this book again a little later on in the year as I think the DNF was in all likelihood because of my ennui with urban fantasy on that particular day rather than the book.]

  1. Hi Orannia~ I loved Bone Crossed. Loved it! I didn't think it could be possible, but I love Adam even more than I did before.

    I hope you end up really enjoying Angel's Blood too. I also loved that one. It's *VERY* dark though.

    Best of luck w/your reading!

  2. Thank you Kati! I love Adam too, so now I'm even more desperate to read Bone Crossed :) I'm now 6th on the library hold list...so not long to go :)

    Ohhh, Angel's BLood is dark? I'm beginning to really like dark books...which is good because I don't think Melusine (my current read) is going to be a light book :)

  3. Ooh, I'm running out on Tuesday for Angels' Blood. I just downloaded the prequel, Angel's Pawn, today!

    I'd be interested to know about House of Cards. I listened to the audiobooks (the whole trilogy.) Did it not work for you?

    I love Julia S-F's series. That was the best mystery series I read last year! I actually listened to some, read others. I just love Russ and Clare!

    Romantic suspense isn't my usual thing (tho' I just read, and liked Anne Stuart's Black Ice), but I think I've got to finally read some Brockmann. I just see raves about her series everywhere!

    Sound like February was a great reading month, and you've got some great books to look forward to!

  4. Honestly, it was the heroine that didn't work for me (and in part the pacing, which felt a little slow). I have 'issues' with certain heroines...I'm just can't relate to heroines that are perfect in looks and intellect and abilities, etc. I compare them to myself and find myself coming up way more than short. The heroine in House of Cards pushed all of my buttons and then some... There was a particular scene in which I thought she came off as arrogant although I think most people would have seen it more as self confidence...but that's on me and my hang-ups rather than the book itself :)

    And then she chose to run through Central Park at night...at that point I returned the book to the library and moved on. What I like in heroines is very different to the majority - I don't like fiesty or kick-a*s heroines as they are the antithesis of me and I feel uncomfortable around them :)

    I love the Russ & Clare books too! I emailed JSP after reading I Shall Not Want and was rapt to hear that she is writing a seventh book -YAH!

  6. I actually listened to all 3 books in the Negotiator trilogy, and I think the first book sets up the running in Central Park thing, and why she did such a risky thing. But yeah, Margrit could be a little over the top at times. But I loved Alban. He was a perfect beta hero!

    That's awesome about another Russ and Clare book! I check her site from time to time, but haven't seen it updated in a long time.
