Note: And it's back...for good this time :)
It's amazing what one finds when unpacking boxes that have been untouched for...years! *blushes* I found a photo of myself from a university (college for those of you in North America) ball. I was 21. I'm wearing a dress I borrowed off a friend of my flatmate's because the dress I had (a dress from my college [high school for those of you in North America :)] no longer fit me. My hair was done by the same friend as the hairdressing appointment I had booked had been overlooked and my hairdresser wasn't available. Someone else at the salon ended up doing my hair, someone who didn't understand fine hair at all. I came home looking like I had fallen into a vat of gel!
This is probably my favourite photo of me. Amusingly this photo was taken without me realizing. I heard my name, looked up, and then photo! Needless to say I wasn't amused at the time... I don't like how I look generally (read 99.9% of the time). But occasionally....very occasionally I don't think I look half bad. This is one of those times.

So, what was the last interesting thing you found unpacking a box?

Look at that gorgeous smile. :) Hey you. XD
ReplyDeleteThe first thing that immediately came to mind was finding my grandmother's locket in a trinket box I had packed away.
She had given it to me when I was quite young - the locket was from what was then Syria when she lived there with my grandfather who was employer by BP on the oil pipelines. On one side was a photo of my grandfather and the other, a photo of her mother.
I thought it had been stolen when my house had been broken into just a few months earlier. When I found it, I think I just sat there for awhile, holding it my heart, before I put it on and wore it.
It now lives tucked away in my bag. Where I know it is at all times and so I know it's - she's - close to me. :)
Lovely you! :)
ReplyDeleteTrying to think of something... and not coming up with a thing. D'oh. :(
@Kris - hey you right back :) That must have been a most amazing moment, finding the locket. I'm so glad you did and thank you so much for sharing that story. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteChris - thank you :) Nothing worse than an on-the-top question to make your mind go blank *grin*
Aw, why'd you remove the photo? :(
ReplyDeleteWell, it doesn't have to do with opening boxes, but...
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about those truly candid shots from college? I used to have one and wish I could find it again. I was sitting on the floor wearing a red silk shirt at a party and someone called my name. I had been brushing my hand through my hair and turned to look over my shoulder while still laughing. Best photo I have ever taken.
Tasha - because I feel a bit weird (read exposed :) about having a photo that was so obviously me up permantly. You didn't miss it by much. Maybe I could put it back up tomorrow PM for a little bit?
ReplyDeleteEli - sounds like a great photo! Fingers crossed it turns up somewhere. I honestly thought this photo was gone, but my grandmother had a copy in her desk (and I finally unpacked that box).
I would love to see the picture! Hopefully I won't miss it again :)
ReplyDeleteTasha/Mariana - it's back :) Just for a little bit :)
ReplyDeleteYay! I caught it :) You are gorgeous! I'm so happy I was able to see it.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I have any pics of when I was 21... can't remember that far away ;) I take about 3 pictures every 2 years :|
Mariana - so glad you got to see it and thank you :) And weirdly, from about 18 onwards, there are very few photos of me. Some whern I was travelling, but hardly any since I got back from the UK.
ReplyDeleteWHAT?! I MISSED IT?
ReplyDeleteThat's so not fair! I want to see!!! *pouts*
*hugs* It's back. And for good, 'cause I've given in :)
ReplyDeleteOh thank you!!! It IS a great shot! You're very pretty and the best part is that you look so happy! A natural pose and a natural smile! I love it! Thanks so much for sharing!! xo :D
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome :) Thank YOU! Normally I hate having my photo taken, because in 99.9% of photos I look...well, never mind :) So this one was sprung on me! *hugs*
